Frequently Asked Questions

I’ll bring everything needed for your session, including the massage table, fresh linens, blankets, pillows and bolsters, along with any other supplies we may use.
Before I arrive, I’ll ask you to have enough clear space for the table and for me to move comfortably around it. If there are any parking instructions, gate codes, stairs, or other details I should know about getting to your home, please let me know ahead of time.
Once I’m set up, we’ll take a few minutes to talk about how you’re feeling, discuss your concerns and your health history. I will then step away to give you privacy to get comfortable on the table.
-
Not at all.
Some people have a clear concern, such as shoulder pain or low back discomfort. Others just know that something doesn’t feel quite right but can’t easily explain why.
You don’t need to have a diagnosis or plan. Our initial conversation is part of the process. Together we’ll discuss what you’ve been experiencing and what feels most important to you.
From there, we begin.
-
No. SOHM is a private bodywork practice.
Sessions are centered on thoughtful, intentional bodywork rather than a traditional spa experience. Every session begins with a conversation, and the work is guided by your goals, your history, and what your body presents - not by a predetermined treatment menu.
The experience is intentionally personal, unhurried, and centered on the work itself.
-
It depends on what you are experiencing.
Many people notice meaningful improvements in comfort, movement, or how they feel after a session. Some concerns respond quickly, while others have developed over months or years and naturally take more time to improve.
There are also conditions that bodywork cannot change. In those cases, the goal is not to “fix” the condition, but to support your comfort, function, and overall well-being in ways that are both appropriate and realistic.
If, during our conversation or during your session, I believe another healthcare professional would be better equipped to evaluate or treat something you’ve described - or something I have noticed - I will let you know. Depending on the situation, I may recommend following up with your primary care physician or another appropriate healthcare provider, such as a physical therapist, chiropractor, dermatologist, or another qualified specialist.
-
It depends on your goals.
Some people schedule regularly as part of caring for themselves over time. Others schedule appointments when something specific arises.
If you’re working with a longstanding pattern, managing a chronic condition, recovering from an injury or surgery, or addressing a particular concern, I may suggest a series of sessions before transitioning to a maintenance schedule.
Any recommendations are simply that - recommendations. We’ll discuss what makes sense for your goals, your schedule, and your circumstances.
-
Absolutely.
Your feedback is always welcome. If you’d like more or less pressure, please let me know.
Some people enjoy very deep bodywork, and when it’s appropriate, I’m happy to work that way. At the same time, more pressure isn’t always more effective.
There may be times when I recommend a different approach because I believe it will better serve what we’re trying to accomplish. If that’s the case, I’ll explain my reasoning so you can decide what feels right for you.
The session is always a collaborative process.
-
Of course.
If you’ve had bodywork before and know that certain techniques work well for you - or that you’d prefer to avoid others - please let me know.
Your preferences and experiences are an important part of the conversation. At the same time, I may recommend a different approach if I believe that it will better support your goals. If I do, I’ll explain my reasoning so you can decide what feels right for you.
-
Yes, although I don’t separate my work into rigid categories.
If you’re active, training, recovering from exercise, or returning to activity after an injury or surgery, your session may include techniques commonly associated with sports massage, such as focused tissue work, assisted stretching, and movement-based approaches.
As with every session at SOHM, the work is selected according to what best serves you rather than following a fixed protocol.
-
Yes.
I work with many people who are recovering from injury or surgery, as well as those managing longstanding pain or changes in movement.
Every situation is different, so the timing and approach will depend on your circumstances and, when appropriate, any recommendations from your healthcare team. Depending on the nature of your surgery, I may ask that you obtain clearance from your physician or surgeon before your appointment.
The work is always adapted to meet you where you are in your recovery.
-
Yes.
Pregnancy brings many changes to the body, and bodywork can often help address the discomforts that come with those changes. Every session is adapted to your stage of pregnancy, your comfort, and your individual needs.
Positioning, support, and the pace of the session are adjusted to help you feel safe and comfortable throughout your appointment. If you have a high-risk pregnancy or specific medical concerns, I may recommend speaking with your healthcare provider before scheduling.
If you’re unsure whether bodywork is appropriate for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to answer questions before you book.

I don’t practice Reiki or offer energy work as a separate or stand-alone modality. However, intuition, presence, and an awareness of the more subtle aspects of the body are part of how I work.
These exist alongside anatomy, experience, and clinical reasoning rather than apart from them. I may be guided by what I notice or sense, while also understanding that I am moving the tissues and joints of your body with a clear purpose in mind. Knowledge and intuition work together to help me decide where to focus, how to respond, and when something asks for a different approach.
If you are looking specifically for Reiki or energy work, I’m happy to recommend practitioners who specialize in those approaches.
-
Not on my account.
I love animals and pets are very welcome.
If your pet is comfortable with me being in the home and their presence won’t prevent us from working safely, they don’t need to be put away simply because I’m there.
Every pet is different, so we can talk about what makes the most sense for your session. If there’s anything I should know about your pet before I arrive, just let me know.
-
Life happens, and sometimes plans change.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, I ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice whenever possible.
Appointments cancelled with less that 24 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, may be subject to the full session fee.
If an emergency or unexpected circumstance arises, please let me know. Providing advance notice gives me the opportunity to offer that appointment time to someone else.

SOHM may be a good fit if you’re looking for someone who is genuinely invested in helping you to feel better, move better, and live better.
Whether you’re seeking relief from pain, recovering from an injury or surgery, hoping to move more comfortably, or simply looking to slow down and reconnect with yourself, every session begins with a conversation and is shaped around what you need.
If that approach resonates with you, I would be honored to work with you.
